A headphone is a transducer, a housing and a promise. Get the first two right and the third becomes a matter of arithmetic.

01

A planar film weighs almost nothing, so it does almost nothing you did not ask for.

A conventional dome driver is pushed at a single point and asked to behave like a rigid piston. Above a few kilohertz it stops behaving and starts flexing, and what you hear is the cone arguing with itself.

The ONE uses a 1.6-micron polymer film with a conductive trace etched across its whole surface, suspended between opposing magnet arrays. Force is applied everywhere at once. The film moves as one surface and stops when the current stops.

Resonance you cannot measure is resonance you will eventually hear.

Cast and moulded housings are cheap and they ring. Every joint is a place for energy to store and release late, smearing transients by a millisecond or two — long enough to matter when you are deciding whether a snare sits right.

Each cup is cut from a single block of 6082-T6 aluminium in one forty-one-minute operation. There are no seams to damp because there are no seams. The grille is etched stainless at sixty-eight percent open area, chosen by measurement rather than by eye.

Every unit ships with its own plot, signed by the person who took it.

A target curve is only meaningful if every unit is held to it. Ours is ±1.5 dB from 40 Hz to 8 kHz on a calibrated head simulator, with a deliberate presence lift at 2.5 kHz so vocals stay legible when the mix moves to a laptop speaker.

Units that fall outside the window are not discounted or sold as seconds. They go back to the bench, and if they cannot be brought inside it, the driver is recycled.

Flat is a decision, not a default.

Every HALDEN shares one target: ±1.5 dB from 40 Hz to 8 kHz, with a deliberate presence lift at 2.5 kHz to keep vocals legible on small monitors. Below is the measured average of the last 500 units of each model, taken on a calibrated head simulator.
